Custodian Appreciation Day!

This Friday, October 2, is Custodian Appreciation Day!Ā

Join us in celebrating our amazing Floyd custodial team! Their hard work and care keep our campus clean, safe, and welcoming for our students, staff, and families every day.Ā

Falcon families, write a thank-you and send it to school with your child to help us show our custodians some love!Ā

Thank you for all you do—you are an important part of our Floyd family!Ā
Ā

Parent-Teacher Conferences šŸ¤

Parent-teacher conferences will beginĀ Monday, October 19. Your child’s teacher will reach out to schedule a conferenceĀ in person, virtually, or by phone. Meetings can be held before school or during the teacher’s conference time.Ā

For families who need a later appointment, we will also hold conferences on Tuesday, October 20,Ā when the building will remain open untilĀ 6:30 p.m.

These conferences are an important opportunity to review your child’s academic progress, discuss their goals for the year, and share ways we can support their growth together.Ā

We value your insight and look forward to partnering with you to help your child succeed.
Ā

🧼 Healthy Hands, Healthy Falcons!

Fall is here, and seasonal sniffles often come along with it! One simple way to help keep our Floyd family healthy is to practice good handwashing.Ā

Encourage your child to wash with soap and water for at leastĀ 20 seconds—about the time it takes to sing ā€œHappy Birthdayā€ twice. Make it a family habit before eating, after using the restroom, and after coughing, sneezing, or blowing their nose.

When Your Child Needs a Day to Rest ā¤ļø
Keeping children home when they are sick helps them recover and helps protect their classmates. Please follow these reminders:

  • Fever:Ā Your child must be fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication before returning to school.
    Ā
  • Vomiting or diarrhea:Ā Your child must stay home for 24 hours after the last episode.
    Ā
  • Persistent cough:Ā If a cough interrupts sleep or makes it difficult to participate in classroom learning, a day of rest at home is recommended.

Let’s Stay Connected!
As we begin October, please share any updates about your child’s medical needs with Nurse Rachel in our Health Office.Ā

CallĀ (972) 882-7107Ā or emailĀ Rklein2@mesquiteisd.org.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep our Falcons healthy and ready to learn! ā¤ļø

šŸ”¢ Building Numeracy at Home

There are easy ways to build your child’s numeracy skills at home, and they can happen during everyday activities!

Numeracy is more than knowing how to add and subtract. It is the ability to understand and use numbers, recognize patterns, solve problems, make estimates, and explain mathematical thinking. Building these skills helps children become confident problem solvers and see how math connects to the world around them.

šŸ”¢Ā Tip of the Month
šŸ’” Try This: Math in the Kitchen
Invite your child to help measure ingredients, count items, compare amounts, or follow a recipe while cooking or baking together.

šŸŽÆ Why It Matters:
Cooking gives children a fun, everyday opportunity to practice measurement, numbers, fractions, and problem solving while seeing how math is used in real life.
Ā

šŸ“š Growing Readers and Writers—At School and Home!

Our students inĀ grades 3–5Ā are working on informational writing in Reading Language Arts. They are practicing organizing ideas, explaining their thinking, and using evidence from a text.Ā

OnĀ October 27, they will showcase these skills on the district’sĀ Extended Constructed Response (ECR) assessment, writing a detailed response to a text.

šŸ’¬ Great writing begins with conversation!Ā You don’t always need a book or worksheet to support literacy. Conversations in the car, at dinner, or while getting ready help build vocabulary and give children practice explaining their ideas.Ā

Try this at home: Ask a question in the car, at dinner, or while getting ready:

⭐ What did you notice today?
⭐ What happened first? Then what happened?
⭐ What surprised you?
⭐ Tell me more about that!

Share a story from your childhood and invite your child to retell it. This helps them remember important details and put events in order. When reading together, ask,Ā ā€œWhat details in the text support your thinking?ā€

šŸ  Family Challenge:Ā Visit theĀ Balch Springs Library–Learning Center, a free community resource with books, children’s programs, and learning opportunities! Let your child choose a book that interests them, then talk about it together.

šŸ“Ā 12450 Elam Rd., Balch Springs, TX 75180

Every conversation and shared story helps our Falcons grow.Ā

Thank you for being our partners in building a love of reading and writing! ā¤ļø

šŸ“Campus Academic Testing Schedule

Our teachers use assessment results to better understand your child’s strengths and learning needs. This information helps them plan small group lessons and provide support that helps each student grow.

Being at school each day helps your child receive valuable instruction and complete assessments with their class. When students miss an assessment, making it up may take them away from other classroom learning.Ā

Please use the calendar below to plan appointments outside of scheduled assessment times whenever possible.Ā We appreciate your partnership!

What do these assessments tell us?
  • CoGAT & IOWA:Ā The district uses these assessments to help identify students for Gifted & Talented services. Results also help our campus understand students’ learning needs and plan appropriate support.
    Ā
  • CFA & CCP:Ā Teachers use these assessments to check students’ progress with grade-level learning, identify skills that need more practice, and plan next steps for instruction.

Thank you for helping your child arrive ready to learn each day. Together, we can support every Falcon’s success! ā¤ļø
